Moving RSIGuard to a new computer
If you're moving to a new computer, you may wish to have RSIGuard information from the old computer available on the new computer. This document will explain how to:
In addition, you will usually need to reregister RSIGuard on the new computer. If you have purchased a single copy of RSIGuard, see http://www.rsiguard.com/newcode for assistance in reregistering your new computer. If you have an RSIGuard license for multiple users, use your site's registration code to reregister the new computer
If you use RSIGuard Roaming Profiles and Network Data Storage
If your organization stores data and user profiles on a network drive, then you don't need to do anything to transfer your data/profile. RSIGuard will automatically locate your data and profile when you log int to any computer with an installation your company's pre-configured RSIGuard on it.
If you have an individual copy and want to store your data/profile on a network, see http://www.rsiguard.net/help/helpmenu.htm#ProfileManagement for additional information.
If you do not use Roaming Profiles or Network Data Storage
If you store data on your local machine and do not use a roaming profile, you can move your profiles and data to the new machine by following these steps.
- To move your settings profiles, you need to use RSIGuard's roaming profile feature to export the settings to a file. Click on "Setup", "Profile Management", "Manage Roaming Profile". You will see a window like this:
- Check the "Enable RSIGuard Roaming Profile" box. Set the "Folder in which RSIGuard should store RSIGuard user profiles" to be the same as your data folder (normally "C:\Program Files\RSIGuard\Data"). (This might already be the case if completed this process when you last changed computers. If so, click Cancel and skip to step 4).
Click OK.
- You will see a window that says:
Click Yes. RSIGuard will inform you that the profile was created:
Click OK.- Now your profile and DataLogger data are stored in the Data folder. Copy the entire Data folder (normally "C:\Program Files\RSIGuard\Data") somewhere that will be accessible to the new computer.
- Install RSIGuard on the new computer.
- On the new computer, exit RSIGuard (if it is running) and copy the backed up files to the same location on the new computer (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\jsmith\Application Data\RSIGuard).
- If your username is different on the new computer than it was on the old computer (e.g. it was jsmith but is now jan.smith) , you will need to rename the data and profile files to correspond to the new username. If your username has not changed, skip to the next step.
- Start up RSIGuard. Click on "Setup", "Profile Management", "Manage Roaming Profile". You will see a window like the one from step 1.
- Check "Enable RSIGuard roaming profile" and make sure the two folder settings are set to the location where you copied the data from the old computer (as in step 2 above). Click OK. You will see the window:
Click OK.- That's it! Your data and settings will now be available on the new computer. Remember, if you want your settings and data to travel around with you from computer to computer at all times (which eliminates the need for the process you just completed) then set your roaming profile and data folder to be on a network location that is accessible from all the computers you will be using.
