   Arrange your workspace so that your body can work in a safe neutral position to enhance vital circulation and limit overuse.
  • Neutral Spine: Ears, Shoulders, & Hips Aligned, with a Small Low Back Arch
  • Neutral Shoulders: Relaxed by Your Sides, Not Reaching
  • Neutral Elbows: At Right Angles (90 Degrees)
  • Neutral Wrists: Flat, In Line with Forearms
General Ergonomic Concepts

Proper Chair Setup

  • Feet flat on footrest/floor
  • Hips above knees
  • Seat pan tilted slightly forward
  • Seat pan depth 1-3 inches from back of knee
  • Lower back supported (fit your chair's backrest or a rolled-up towel in your lower back curve)
  • Arm rests 1-2 inches beneath elbows with shoulders relaxed
  • Shoulders relaxed by your sides with elbows at 90 degrees
  • Wrists flat, in line with forearms

Proper Computer Setup

  • Proper chair position, as stated above
  • Monitor position: 18-24 inches away; top of viewing screen at eye level; centered; free of glare
  • Document holder: as close to screen as possible; same angle as monitor
  • Keyboard position: wrists flat; shoulders neutral and at sides; elbows at 90 degrees (i.e. arms should hang naturally with the forearms parallel to the floor
  • Mouse position: as close to keyboard as possible; allow for occasional use of wrist rest or armrest

Most frequently used accessories should be placed as centrally as possible
