RSIGuard Technical Note

Problem:

When using "File, Send As, Attachment/Link" in Excel 2003, Word 2003 or Internet Explorer 8 (for Windows) using Outlook 2003, clicking on the Send button does not work properly when RSIGuard is running.

Cause:

The issue is due to a bug in Outlook 2003.

Solutions:

1. Update to RSIGuard 4.0.38a or later.
2. Although clicking Send does not work, you can still send the email either by pressing Alt+S or by pressing Ctrl+Enter (both of which are ergonomically superior options!).
3. Upgrade Microsoft Office. The bug has been fixed in all subsequent versions of Outlook (e.g. Office 2007, Office 2010, Office 2013).
4. Change the default email program in Excel, Word, or Internet Explorer to something other than Office 2003 (in IE 8, see Tools, Internet Options, Programs).

Additional Comments:

RSIGuard is operating correctly and it is only incidental that it affects Office 2003. The problem is not limited to RSIGuard. However, 4.0.38a changes how it uses a Microsoft API as a workaround to resolve the issue.
